FREE Community Evening Dance Classes for Students and Adults: The Beckles Dancing Company has collaborated with DISD's W. E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy and Middle School to offer evening dance classes to community students and adults. Wednesdays at 6:30 "Let's Get into Dance Shape" class for adults; Thursday at 7pm Youth Development Dance class for students. Classes are held in the Dance Studios at Grenier Middle School at 501 S. Edgefield Street in Oak Cliff.
Academic Support Needed
Early Dance Institute: The New York Baroque Dance Company has mentored new talent in the field of Historical Dance. However, there are so many more dancers interested in history that have not had the opportunity to dance in the company. They have nowhere to go for serious graduate studies in historical performance practices. In response to this reality, Catherine Turocy would like to develop the Early Dance Institute at a university which would offer advanced degrees in Dance History and would promote interdisciplinary research linking dance scholarship with the other disciplines. Ideas for the program and courses have been developed and now it is time to find a home for the EDI.
